IV Push

Supplies Needed:

• 2 Saline syringes (sodium chloride)
• Medication syringe
• 2 Heparin syringes
• Alcohol prep pads

Wash Hands:

1. Scrub the clave with alcohol (approx. 10-15 seconds)
2. Flush IV catheter using Saline (see CNY Infusion Flushing Protocol)
3. Scrub the clave with alcohol (approx. 10-15 seconds)
4. Attach medication syringe to clave and push slowly over _____ minutes or _____ mL per ___________.
5. When infusion is complete remove syringe from clave and discard.
6. Scrub the clave with alcohol (approx. 10-15 seconds)
7. Flush IV catheter using Saline then Heparin (see CNY Infusion Flushing Protocol)
